Breakaway Youth Arts Clubs
Breakaway is an after school/college arts project for young people with learning disabilities. The project brings together young people who enjoy music, drama, dance, and art, helping them to develop skills for life, independence and resilience.

We run w
eekly sessions in Beeston, Nottingham and Worksop. Sessions include music, dance, drama, visual arts and live performance. Sometimes we do special projects like trips out or fundraising. The most important aspect is the support for personal development and progression for all the young people that attend.

In addition to the weekly sessions young people can take part in community volunteering as a Breakaway Ambassador.

What makes this project different to other projects supporting young people with learning disabilities is that Breakaway includes a programme of emotional education that underpins all of the work we do. There is space to talk about the things that are important to the young people and opportunity to discuss the challenges that they face.

Individuals gain independence, confidence, and self esteem through their participation in the project. We support them as they transition into adulthood and help them to achieve their individual goals and reach their full potential.

There are currently regular weekly sessions running in Beeston and Mansfield. Sessions start at 3.30 p.m. and refreshments are provided that include a drink, sandwich, fruit or other small snack.

All of our staff are professionally qualified and experienced in working with young people with learning difficulties. All staff and volunteers have a current DBS clearance.
